Hearts Move Eight Points Clear at the Summit After Lawrence Shankland's Spot-Kick Defeats The Hoops
History wasn't made at Tynecastle, as it's far too early for such landmarks. This game highlighted is that Hearts possess a real strong chance of ending Scottish football's 40-year dominance by two. Make that an eight-point lead for the team over Celtic, whom they comfortably swatted aside. The challenge is now for others.

What was so notable after they took a 3-1 lead was how untroubled the rest of the game was for the hosts. The Greek winger netted the second goal, moving infield before thumping a right-footed shot past the static Kasper Schmeichel. Soon there was further euphoria in the stands, Dane Murray bringing down Braga for a spot-kick that Shankland slotted home. Rodgers appeared frustrated; he hardly has his troubles to seek.
The crowd erupted after Alexandros Kyziridis (second right) gives Hearts the lead against the opposition.
Celtic's Response
Celtic had actually recovered well from Hearts’ rapid start. Murray, who struggled throughout, turned the ball into his own net due to confusion when trying to clear a delivery from Shankland. Celtic edged their way back into the game, skipper McGregor, finishing a Tierney pass for level terms.
Solid Backline
The Hearts goalkeeper Alexander Schwolow, who had saved superbly from Nygren in the first half, blocked an Arne Engels shot which deflected off Tómas Magnússon. Halkett thwarted a Yamada attempt in stoppage time. Hearts were otherwise untroubled as the minutes passed. “We remain resolute” has become the Tynecastle verse of choice at the ground. It is becoming increasingly difficult the excitement.
